Shinji Nakaba is a Japanese artist who creates unusual jewellery using an unusual process. The skulls he creates are actually etched beads.
The story
Shinjin Nakaba began making jewelry in 1974, after the creation of dresses, shoes, hairstyles and graphic design lines. He sees the gems as “wearable sculptures.” This is his vision and his way of thinking. He designs every piece and presents them in solo and group exhibitions.
Each of his works is designed with stones and precious metals, but also with more unusual materials like beer cans, plastic bottles and other recyclable items.
In recent years, interests in glyptic engraving have increased. Nakaba, among others, has made a series of miniature skulls from beads that he himself carved and engraved and mounted on rings and other jewelry. Very meticulous and impressive!
