Eva Holland, recently widowed, posted on Facebook a picture in front of her in front of her late husband’s open casket with her children … and her late husband to condemn drug addiction.
Painkillers to heroin
Eva Holland knew her husband, Mike Settles, for 11 years. The young man of 26 years died September 2nd in Cincinnati, Ohio. The official cause of death has not been determined, but Eva knows what killed her husband.
She described him as a husband, a friend and a great father that fell into a life of drugs. First painkillers were his gateway drug but were only used to treat dental pain but he sought a stronger high. Mike started the detoxification procedure last year but relapsed which caused his death.
A photo for prevention
At the wake, Eva Holland took a photo (and no, not a selfie!) with her two children to the in front of the corpse, before sharing it on Facebook.
In her message, she said that this photo may disturb or even annoy some people, but she wanted to show the reality of addiction. The gamble paid off, the image has now been shared about 280 000 times shared and testimonials have poured in.
While some say that the photo was a shock, other comments are more touching. The picture has already helped those in the process of coming clean.
Meanwhile, Eva Holland is using this as a way to grieve and help people.
